UNLESS YOU WILL

At the moment I would rather plan a trip through stunning mountains in Iceland as Bec Brown from Blanket magazine did, then paint my living room. But then again, tomorrow, when I wake up, I can pretend I am someplace other – on a holiday – as I am sure it will look stunning after weeks of plaster.

When I saw Deborah Parkin’s images, they made my heart ache. Deborah is using a large format camera with instant film, not the easiest when it is windy and the dog is barking…. but how much fun and what a joy – her kids will have the best preserved memories to keep them company when they are old.

Ok, so I am still sick and still feeling a bit sorry for myself, so when I found Linda Sim’s images in my blog folder, they simply cheered me up and inspired me. On her website Linda writes: “an exploration into the depths of the human mind, leading to an ambiguous centre, characterized by the infinite impossibility of rational assessment; by nature. no matter how well we train our brains to function via logical reasoning, we essentially still base each and every of our daily decisions on our innermost feelings and needs, which may be obscure; a language we cannot understand. the poetry of human existence is everlastingly buried just below our skin… and we may just starting to listen.”

How much fun must Heather Rasmussen have had constructing this great project? It started with shipping container accidents images she downloaded from the internet, made her own paper constructions, only to assemble them in the same way as her found images.

After coming across Tim Simmons ambiguous landscape photographs of haunting beauty, I started to wonder how he achieved his incredible lighting.

I am not good at snap shots. I tried it in Hamburg, but when I got home I deleted most of them. These images were taken around Tivoli (2 hours from Rome by bus) and this is when I realised that my travels are for trees (along with friends, sun, good wine etc). I never seem to get tired of their form, sizes or shapes and am committed to continue to capture their elegant calm.
